Do I need a pelvic exam?
The short answer is no.
90% of patients can have their symptoms resolved without a pelvic exam. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) only recommends an in-person pelvic exam when you have symptoms or a medical history that requires it.

We'll ask about your symptoms and medical history before deciding with you whether a pelvic exam is necessary for a diagnosis.

If the answer is yes, our care coordinators will find a high-quality provider
in your area to give you an in-person pelvic exam.

We will never ask you to show us photos or show your vagina on camera.

Just like an in-person office visit, the care you receive at Visana is delivered by gynecologists, physicians, and nurse practitioners. Appointments take place virtually and are scheduled in a way that ensures you’ll have the time you need to tell your story and address your concerns, with appointments available up to 45-60 minutes. You’ll receive a secure video link and instructions before your appointment.
Visana appointments do not involve visual examinations, and you will not be asked to provide photos or videos. Most Visana patients can be treated without in-person follow-up care. Should in-person care or additional tests be needed, Visana care coordinators will schedule follow-up testing, help you find in-network providers, schedule follow-up appointments, and send and receive any medical records needed.
Yes. Once you provide your insurance information, Visana will verify your coverage—this happens immediately, so you don’t have to wait! Standard copays and deductibles may apply.
